Each month we highlight a volunteering role and tell you a little more about it, with the help of one of our current volunteers!

This month's role is Places of Welcome Host.

Places of Welcome is a national initiative aimed at providing a network of community venues where anyone can go to find a friendly face for a cuppa and a chat. By becoming a Places of Welcome Host, you could help us to provide a free social meeting place for those who may live alone or feel isolated, are new to the area or have little opportunity to meet other people in their neighbourhood.

Places of Welcome are somewhere everyone is welcome and it’s important that there should always be someone on hand ready to provide a smile and a greeting and to encourage people to drop by.

Our volunteer host Dave tells us a bit more:

“I've been volunteering for Places of Welcome at Worksop Library since November 2021 along with my friend Liz and we are I am absolutely loving it!

I was feeling like I needed to do something to help with the community and saw this post advertised on the Inspire website.

The role involves helping people meet others, have a chat, a free drink and biscuit. This occurs every Monday morning.  We usually have a quiz, which I enjoy making up, I try to throw in some strange or silly questions so that we can all have a good laugh!

I am open to any ideas that visitors have, maybe table top games, could be one idea.  But the main thing is to come and enjoy it in whatever way you can!"
