Introducing your new and improved Harworth and Bircotes Library

Published 3rd April 2023

We are excited to inform you that after ten weeks of refurbishment Harworth and Bircotes Library is reopening on Monday 3 April at 9am. We are looking forward to welcoming back the community of Harworth and Bircotes to our newly improved Library space.

Harworth and Bircotes is one of six of our libraries that has received investment from the Libraries Improvement Fund (LIF), which is part of the Cultural Investment Fund a programme of work funded by the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) delivered by Arts Council England.  Nottinghamshire County Council, partnering with Inspire were awarded £170,000 to create community hubs in Nottinghamshire, transforming the buildings into flexible welcoming spaces for communities to use and enjoy.

Inspire was also one of just 15 library authorities across the UK to be awarded funding from CILIP’s Green Libraries Grant, to create the green spaces at Bilsthorpe and Bircotes Libraries in order to develop environmental understanding and action through local partnerships and community engagement activities.  Therefore, we are thrilled to also announce the launch of our Environmental Library Garden at Harworth and Bircotes Library.

The refurbishment has provided the community with a new flexible layout, community gathering area, gallery display space and exciting new stock for all ages and interests. In addition, and following community consultation, there will be a range of new activities and events on offer, including:

  • Coffee, Chat and Craft, every Tuesday at 10:30am
  • Free and low-cost courses on a variety of subjects
  • Rattle, Rhyme and Roll followed by Stay and Play, every Tuesday at 9:30am
  • Children's Lego Club, every Saturday at 10am
  • Library garden environmental activities
  • Regular family arts and crafts activities
  • Local history and heritage sessions
