The Old Library, Mansfield

IYA is based at The Old Library Venue & Media Centre which houses a professional Recording Studio, a 100 seat  Studio Theatre, Exhibition Space, a Mac Suite Teaching Space, and a number of dance, workshop and rehearsal spaces.

These fantastic facilities allow us to offer a dynamic arts programme run by professional artists for children and young people aged 7 – 25 years.

As well as our regular programme of events, listed below, we have a whole host of music, dance. drama and theatre performances throughout the year as well as dance, drama and music summer schools which take place through the holidays;

Whether you're a beginner or a pro, looking to have fun, meet new friends or looking for a new challenge, our Street Dance Crews offer something for everyone. Working with a professional choreographer and dancer, you’ll learn the various Street Dance styles and techniques, work on your choreography skills and then perform as a crew at various regional dance events.
Monday Pure Steel 7-9pm
Suitable for ages 13-19
£5 per session
Pure Steel provides an opportunity for you to become part of the Mansfield based ensemble and learn to play the steel pans. The repertoire of the ensemble is a good mix that recreates the traditional sound of the Caribbean through to a more upbeat, and recognisable, repertoire including steel pan arrangements of well-known songs. The ensemble performs regularly throughout the year.
Tuesday Singer Songwriter academy 5.30-7.30pm
Suitable for ages 13-19
£2 per session
Working in our recording studio with professional musicians, you will develop your music skills through learning how to capture your ideas, write songs, and turn your finished songs into demos and live performances. You will also have the opportunity to access music industry events.
Tuesday North Notts Dance Company 6-8pm
Suitable for ages 11-19
£5 per session
The group takes part in weekly contemporary and choreography technique sessions, and work towards performance opportunities throughout the year. The company aims to train young dancers in contemporary dance, enabling them to work creatively and perform at regional and national dance platforms. The sessions support Dance4’s Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) programme and auditions are held throughout the year.
Wednesday Red Hot Band 6-9pm
Suitable for ages 13-19
£50 per term
The Red Hot Band is a lively swing ensemble featuring some of the best young musicians from all corners of Nottinghamshire. They play an eclectic mix of well known, and some less familiar, swing and jazz classics from across the years, and perform regularly throughout the year.

A performance company that ranges in styles from popping, breaking, locking and bone - breaking. We aim to bring new sci-fi/comedy themes into the modern street dance scene.

Unanima Theatre is an integrated company of adults with and without a learning disability. They use the arts to explore themes and issues through innovative storytelling, using bold experimental styles to create work that challenges audiences to think differently. Unanima’s participants work in co-production with professional artists

NEWARTS is a newly developed open access dance programme for young people to come and work with professional artists to develop new skills and take part in high-profile performances. Working in partnership with The Newark Academy we expect the programme to grow and develop beyond the school. The young people have already attended county events and showcased their work.

A dance and music project for disabled young people working collaboratively to create ambitious and beautiful performances. The music is created with a mixture of traditional instruments, percussion and music technology.
