Welcome to Sutton in Ashfield Library!

Located in the heart of Sutton in Ashfield within Idlewells Shopping Centre, we’re a vibrant hub for information, culture, heritage and learning in the area.

Need inspiration for your next read? Pop in and see one of our friendly team who can show you our latest books. Whether it’s fiction or non-fiction, for the young or old, and everything in between – with over 36,000 titles under our roof there’s something for everyone!

Across the week, you can find our staff getting rowdy with the little ones at our Rattle,Rhyme and Roll sessions, welcoming our three reading groups, and even hosting visits from popular local authors. Our volunteers are also here every Friday morning at our Places of Welcome sessions providing a cuppa, a biscuit and a smile for all, free of charge.

Are you looking for somewhere to host an event of your own? We have meeting rooms for hire from just £6 per hour, perfect for meetings and learning. You can often find our Inspire Learning team here too, delivering courses from Functional Skills to watercolour painting – just ask us for more information!

If solo research is more your forte, we have a great selection of fascinating local heritage resources including access to parish records and Ancestry, accessible on our second floor. Alternatively, come along with your laptop and settle in for a study day with free WiFi and a coffee machine on site.

So, fancy a slice of the action? Check out our events listings by clicking the tab above, and keep up to date via our Facebook page @InspireSuttonLibrary.

See you soon!

Important notices

Sutton in Ashfield closure - Wednesday 24- Friday 26 April

Sutton in Ashfield Library will be closed for 3 days for essential pre-refurbishment investigative works, from Wednesday 24 - Friday 26 April 2024. The library will reopen as usual from 9am on Saturday 27 April.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

We are changing book suppliers!

While we transition to our new supplier, there will be a short period where we will be unable to order new titles published from April onwards. We will get this back up and running as soon as possible and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Removal of DVDs in libraries

Due to a reduction in demand, we will be phasing out our DVD collections in libraries from Monday 1 April 2024. Reservations may still be placed until Monday 18 March, however stock levels across the county may vary and this may have an impact on availability of titles. Any DVDs held in our heritage collections will be retained and can be loaned as usual. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
