We’re welcoming you back to libraries safely from 6 July.

We’ve worked hard to reopen our libraries with the priority of keeping customers and staff safe. We’ve reviewed our service and reorganised our spaces, introduced social distancing and hygiene measures. Click here for a full list of libraries reopening.

Ensuring your visit is safe and welcoming

We have done everything possible to make your visit safe and reduce the risk of infection for customers and colleagues alike! Our staff are working very hard to provide your library and archives service, so please be kind and patient!

We also ask you not to visit us if you have coronavirus symptoms.

Limited capacity

We have worked out a safe capacity for each library to ensure everyone has plenty of space. As this is much less than we’d normally like, you may need to queue to enter. Please be patient until we can welcome you into the library as quickly as it's safe to do so.

Social distancing

Whether you’re queuing, browsing or waiting for assistance, help us keep everyone safe by keeping a 2-metre distance from other customers and staff. We have re-organised our spaces and there will be plenty of signage to help guide you and tape on the floor will indicate a safe distance. Study, coffee and seating areas are closed for the time being. Our library computers are organised to ensure a safe distance from other users.

Hygiene and cleaning

We have introduced additional hygiene measures – including making hand sanitiser available in our libraries for you to use. Our hygiene measures also include cleaning throughout and at the end of the day.

Protective measures

All our helpdesks are now fitted with protective screens, to protect both our customers and staff. Some staff may be wearing PPE - each member of staff has the option to wear this if they wish for maximum personal protection. Books can be returned contactless in our designated drop off areas. Space and weather allowing, this may be outside.

Remote access

If you are not quite ready to visit us yet, maybe because you are vulnerable or shielding, try our new Click and Collect service, or visit inspireculture.org.uk/online for eReading options as well as cultural and learning resources.
