Feel safe and welcome during your library visit

Update 30 November 2021

To help keep everyone safe, please wear a face covering unless exempt in our libraries and at archives.

We’ve worked hard to reopen our libraries and resume services with the priority of keeping customers and staff safe. We reviewed our service and reorganised our spaces, introduced social distancing and hygiene measures. Click here for a full list of libraries to open.

Ensuring your visit is safe and welcoming

We have done everything possible to make your visit safe and reduce the risk of infection for customers and colleagues alike! Our staff are working very hard to provide your library and archives service, so please be kind and patient!

We also ask you not to visit us if you have coronavirus symptoms.

Our Privacy Policy has recently been updated, as we will ask for your contact details upon arrival. They will be shared with the NHS Test and Trace system if we receive a request from them. If you have the NHS Covid-19 app, a QR code poster is available to scan in each library.

Social distancing

Whether you’re queuing, browsing or waiting for assistance, help us keep everyone safe by continuing to social distance where possible. Our library computers, are organised to ensure a safe distance from other users.

Hygiene and cleaning

We have introduced additional hygiene measures - extra cleaning and  making hand sanitiser available in our libraries for you to use.

Protective measures

All our helpdesks are still fitted with protective screens, to protect both our customers and staff. Staff may be wearing face coverings.

Help keep everyone safe and wear a face covering during your visit unless exempt.
