Computers in Libraries

All of Nottinghamshire’s public libraries have computers which can be booked by members of the public.

From library computers you can access the internet and use our installed word processing and desktop publishing software.

The Council also has subscriptions to a number of online reference resources which can be accessed by people using the computers in our libraries. These include ancestry and archive services.

Free WiFi is available in all of our libraries. You will need your library card to access this service.

Booking

Most of our computers can be booked up to three weeks in advance. In larger libraries we also have drop-in machines, which you can use for up to 30 minutes without needing to book.

Sessions can be booked for either 30 or 60 minute slots depending on availability. Each day you can use a PC for up to three hours, for a maximum of three sessions per day.

You will need your library card number and your PIN code to book a session.

Book online

Visit our online booking system to reserve a computer at any of our libraries, or at the archives.

To book:

  • Enter the first eight numbers of your library card with no spaces.
  • Enter your PIN code.
  • Click the reservations button and select the library you need, or the archives.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your booking.

Book in person

You can book sessions in person by talking to a member of staff who will be happy to make a reservation for you.

You can also book from a library computer using the online booking system, or by calling our customer service centre on 0300 500 80 80.

Printing

All libraries have their PCs linked to at least one colour printer. Printers are set up to automatically print in black and white and double sided, but you can choose other options.

Unfortunately it is not possible to print over WiFi.

Visit our charges page for information on printing costs.

Scanners

Scanners are available at a number of Nottinghamshire libraries. Please ask when booking, as scanners may need to be used on specific machines.

You can use our library list to check which libraries have scanners available for public use.

Accessibility

We have the following facilities available:

  • All PCs have screen magnification software.
  • Other adaptive hardware is available. Please ask a member of staff.
  • Some libraries have height adjusted desks.
