About this course

The course will help you to develop a personal painting style and to explore the boundaries between representation and abstraction. During the course you are encouraged to explore acrylics as a medium. Working from photographs, tuition is provided through a mixture of demonstrations and exercises according to your needs, as well as informal group critiques and discussions, all helping to increase your knowledge and enjoyment of landscape painting in the colours of Autumn.

What will be covered on the course?  What will be taught to learners? 

  • Artist research:  Robert Russell MacNee & Ken Knight  
  • Working out innovative, dynamic compositions  
  • Using a bright, colourful palette, with dynamic and bold mark making 
  • Painting techniques: impasto, scumbling, sgrafitto and blending

What will learners achieve by the end of the course? 

  • Learners will know how to use quick and bold marks with thick paint to create expressive landscapes in acrylics. We will explore how shadow and light, patterns and texture can really help to give perspective and how this information can be used to create the atmosphere of a landscape. 

What skills or knowledge do learners already need to have to attend the course? 

  • None 

You will need:

  • 40 x 50 cm Stretched canvas/ Canvas board, acrylic paper, Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Umber, and Titanium White acrylic paint, white acrylic  gesso, palette, glycerin, spray bottle, a range of synthetic paint brushes, graphite pencils,  metal palette knife, silicone spatula, photo reference

As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course.  Zoom will be used for the live sessions and the link will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.

 To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:

  • Complete the EVENTBRITE BOOKING.
  • Complete our INSPIRE ONLINE ENROLMENT FORM for each person attending the course.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
