About this course

A beginner’s course, to inspire learners to enjoy and understand art works. To explain three periods of art and demystify art movements and examine examples from art history.

What will be covered on the course?

Florence and the Renaissance

Florence was the center of trade and technology in the middle ages. Learners will discover the art of this period, with the influence of patrons, religion, humanism, changes in painting technology and perspective. Finally, learners will understand how these factors shaped the art world.

Paris and Montmartre

Montmartre is a region of Paris, which features cafes, bistros, night life and art schools, where travelling artists lived the bohemian lifestyle, recalled events and considered philosophy. Learners can discover how this center became a melting pot for art ideas which impacted irretrievably, on the established art world.

Art movements in Europe

Modernism began in Europe and then America influenced this movement as the center of the art world. Learners will discover the influential factors behind the success of Modernist artists, and understand alternative views to our Eurocentric one.

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

  • Recognise at least 3 art periods
  • Describe and analyse 3 art movements
  • Evaluate how these periods influenced the art around us
