On this course, we will explore the history of art colonies and discover how Modernism influenced this small fishing town and it's tourism.

Artists saw the beauty of light and sea as a backdrop for outdoor painting and genre painting. They were driven to work and live in coastal resorts to find new horizons, or escape from cities. Closely followed by the influences from Europe and America, their focus on Modernism began to dominate. Learners can discover how these changes affected the art in the tourist resort of St Ives today.
We will:

  • Discover the geographical changes to the area
  • Explore the background of impressionism
  • Explore artist travels and influences
  • Evaluate the impact of art movements in several works

Learners will require Pen and paper.
