About this course

This course is for parents, grandparents, relatives, care givers  or anyone who cares and supports a child  with (or without) a diagnosis of autism.  It will offer you an opportunity to gain an understanding about Autism and how it affects everyday life.  This is an online course where you can discuss practical tips and share strategies to help support an individual with autism in the comfort of your own home.

What will be covered on the course?  

  • Explore the various aspects of the Autism Spectrum to enhance parents understanding of the challenges faced by their child. 
  • Gain confidence in sharing advice and talking about how autism affects everyday life. 
  • Investigate various strategies to help a child with communication. 
  • Share practical tips for both home, and when out in the community. Learn how social stories and comic strip conversations can help with social interaction and transition. 
  • Be part of a group that is understanding and supportive. 
  • Gain further knowledge about sensory processing and how this impacts on their child 
  • Gain an awareness of the  current legislation and parent rights for children with ASC. 

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?  

  • By the end of the course all learners will have had the opportunity to gain an understanding how autism effects the everyday life and considerate of strategies that support communication, social interaction, adapting the home and preparing for going out and about. 
  • All learners will be able to identify sensory processing differences and the way they can impact on an individual with autism.  Learners will have the opportunity to be part of a supportive network of people who have the happiness and well-being of individuals with autism at heart.  Progression onto part 2 of the course on completion of part 1. 

No prior skills or knowledge is required for the course just a willingness to listen and share ideas. 

You will need:

  • Notebook and pen 
  • Please ensure you have a quiet and private space to access this course. The discussions and topics can be of a personal nature and it is important when sharing strategies to help children we can uphold their privacy and ensure safeguarding practices. 

As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course.  Zoom will be used for the live sessions and the link will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.

To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:

  • Complete the EVENTBRITE BOOKING.
  • Complete our INSPIRE ONLINE ENROLMENT FORM for each person attending the course.

You should be redirected to the Inspire Online Enrolment Form after completing the Eventbrite booking.  If you are not redirected, please use the link supplied in the Eventbrite booking confirmation email.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
