This is an on line course where you will have an opportunity to follow on and explore and discuss further topics associated with autism in the comfort of your own home.

What will be covered on the course?

  • Common misconceptions – stereotyping, the media. What can we do to help others understand?
  • Communication and social interaction. Discuss the links between speech and language and social development. Let’s get creative and develop resources to help bridge the different ways of thinking and learning
  • Sensory processing differences, diet and developing constructive environments to help ease anxiety and stress
  • Strategies to help with transitions, ie moving home, education settings, change in family circumstances.
  • Getting involved with individual support plans using a person centred approach.
  • How legislation underpins support for individuals with autism

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

  • By the end of the course all learners will have had the opportunity to gain a further understanding of autism and explore strategies that support with misconceptions, communication difficulties and transition. Learners will be able to understand more about sensory differences, diet and person centred planning. Learners will have the opportunity to be part of a supportive network of people who have the happiness and well-being of individuals with autism at heart.
