This 4 week course includes a field trip to either Wollaston park or Newstead Abbey, Nottinghamshire and the aim is that the learner will be able to demonstrate how to produce creative images using the camera manual  controls (Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, ISO and Manual) in-conjunction with composition techniques and appreciate how by using visual literacy techniques, stories can be told through images.

What will be covered on the course?  

  • Explanation of the exposure triangle 
  • Creatively use the manual  controls (Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, ISO and Manual) in-conjunction with composition 
  • Visual literacy (communicating ideas through your images) 

What will learners achieve by the end of the course? 

  • Improved camera skills and visually improved photographs by 
  • Understand how to use the camera manual  controls Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, ISO and Manual  
  • How you can produce creative images using the manual controls with compositional techniques   
  • Visual Literacy 
  • How you can communicate your ideas through photography 

The knowledge you have gained will enable you to join a camera club or photography association, or apply for FE 


You will need a camera that has:  

  • Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, ISO and Manual controls 

As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course.  Zoom will be used for the live sessions and the link will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.



To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:

  • Complete the EVENTBRITE BOOKING.
  • Complete our INSPIRE ONLINE ENROLMENT FORM for each person attending the course.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been a resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in the UK with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool City Region, Tees Valley, West Midlands and West of England.
