A relaxed exploration of creative writing, including writing practice. With a focus on short stories, this course aims to help beginners gain confidence to write fiction.

We will also look at work by published authors, examining techniques they have used in their writing. There will be the option for learners to investigate routes to publication.

What will be covered on the course?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include writing exercises, question and answer, and discussion.  You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor.  You will have the option to share your work with the group.  You will be encouraged to consider work shared by other members in the group and give your opinions and suggestions

By the end of the course learners will have:

  • understanding of what a short story is;
  • formed a regular writing practice;
  • collected a bank of ideas for further writing;
  • shared work with the group for feedback (optional);

As this course is online learners will require access to a laptop, smart phone, computer or tablet.  The course will be accessed through Zoom.  A pen and paper will be useful although some information will be provided.
