  • To consider  belief  and non-belief as a protected characteristics under the Human Rights Act 
  • Appreciate  different cultures & beliefs 
  • Understand dietary requirements of different cultures 
  • Increase awareness of religious and cultural festivals

  • The meaning of the terms Culture, Belief, Religion & Tradition  
  • Awareness of the legal position belief and non-belief as protected characteristics 
  • Understanding our own cultural perspectives 
  • Brief consideration of the creeds of different beliefs  
  • Some of the main dietary requirements of different cultures and religions in our society 
  • Some of the main Festivals & celebrations celebrated in our society 
  • Where to find out more about this subject area 
  • How to use Padlet to post images 

What will learners achieve by the end of the course? 

  • Learners will be able to give a definition of the terms involved: Belief, Culture, Religion, Tradition 
  • Learners will be able to give an explanation of Belief and non-belief as a protected characteristic 
  • Learners will be able to describe their own culture 
  • Learners will be able to correctly identify representation of the different cultural and belief communities in the population 
  • Learners will be able to identify basic beliefs and identify which cultural or belief community they belong to 
  • Learners will be able to identify rites of passage 
  • Learners will understand some of the dietary requirements of different cultures and beliefs in our society 
  • Learners will be able to identify major cultural and religious festivals in our society 
  • Learners will be able to post pictures to Padlet

  • The BBC’s Radio 4 series “Beyond Belief” and their “Religions” Web page are excellent resources to dip into for added interest.

As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course.  Zoom will be used for the live sessions and the link will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.

To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:

  • Complete the EVENTBRITE BOOKING.
  • Complete our INSPIRE ONLINE ENROLMENT FORM for each person attending the course.

You should be redirected to the Inspire Online Enrolment Form after completing the Eventbrite booking.  If you are not redirected, please use the link supplied in the Eventbrite booking confirmation email.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:

  • Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool City Region, Tees Valley, West Midlands and West of England.
