About this course

The course has been created to show you how gestural brush-strokes and mark-making gives the impression of spontaneity in your compositions. You will benefit from this course as your style of painting will become looser, full of energy and colour. Experiment the pure joy of mark-making by playing with colour and texture using non-traditional tools.

This course is teaching you to loosen up your painting style. Learn how less is more when painting. During the course we will research semi-abstract artists like Petra Tholken & Jonas Gerard, work out innovative, dynamic compositions using a bright, colourful palette, with dynamic and bold mark making and practice painting techniques like impasto, scumbling, sgrafitto, blending and glazing

Learners work on individual projects to develop confidence, skills and knowledge. By the end of the course, learners will know how to select the art materials, how to prepare the painting surface (including a textured surface), how to use media and tools to manipulate the media, using different painting techniques to create an expressive painting compositions in acrylics. We will explore how the formal elements can really help to give a ‘wow’ effect to your painting.
