About this course

Nottinghamshire has a great literary heritage. In this course you will discover some of the places that have influenced the life and work of writers, visiting – through illustrations presentations and videos - pubs, churches, theatres and some more unlikely literary locations. If you have an interest in local history and literature, and are over the age of 19, you’ll enjoy this journey through our remarkable literary history.

This course, about Nottinghamshire’s writers and their words, will be told through the places that influenced them. Some of the locations are now gone, others are well-loved, all of them have a story to tell. Featuring banned books and bestsellers, with subjects as varied as religious freedom and the theory of evolution, you’ll find that Nottinghamshire is a place where, for most of its rebels, the pen is mightier than the arrow.

You will need:

  • A pen and a notebook
