About this course

This course is for adults who are completely new to knitting.  It will cover the basics of knitting, starting from no knowledge and skills at all.

On this course you will:

  • Learn about some history of knitting in Nottinghamshire.
  • Be learning basic knitting stitches, include knit stitches and purl stiches including starting from a garter stitch, stocking stich and moss stitch.
  • Be given an introduction to reading basic patterns.
  • Be learning basic knitting shaping techniques to make the Knittinghamshire Robin Hood hat.

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Follow a simple pattern and use basic knitting stitches to create small projects.
  • Use your new found skills to make tiny Robin Hood hats for the Miner2Major  Knittinghmashire  project.  


This is an online course.  You will need a suitable electronic device such as a laptop, tablet or smartphone with internet access. Learners will be required to download and use Zoom (free software).

Knitting Resources : Double knitting yarn (light colours as they are easier to see) also brown and mid green colours for Robin Hood hats,  4-5mm knitting needles for double knitting yarn. 


If people have arthritis or finger mobility issues please  use aran or chunky yarn. (Check yarn label as a guide)

To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:

  • Complete the EVENTBRITE BOOKING.
  • Complete our INSPIRE ONLINE ENROLMENT FORM for each person attending the course.

You should be redirected to the Inspire Online Enrolment Form after completing the Eventbrite booking.  If you are not redirected, please use the link supplied in the Eventbrite booking confirmation email.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
