About this course

This qualification aims to provide an introduction to sports coaching and provide learners with the skills and principles to safely deliver sports coaching sessions.

This qualification will:

  • Focus on the study of the principles of coaching sport
  • Offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge
  • Provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills.

Qualification objectives

The objectives of this qualification are to:

  • Introduce learners to the principles of planning, delivering and reviewing sports coaching activities
  • Enable learners to plan, implement and analyse coaching sessions
  • Help engage learners
  • Provide progression for learners from Level 1 through to Level 3.

Learners will require the use of a laptop or device they can access Zoom sessions on as well as an internet connection


Learners are required to attend both Tuesday and Wednesday each week for the duration of the course.

To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:

  • Complete the EVENTBRITE BOOKING.
  • Complete our INSPIRE ONLINE ENROLMENT FORM for each person attending the course.

You should be redirected to the Inspire Online Enrolment Form after completing the Eventbrite booking.  If you are not redirected, please use the link supplied in the Eventbrite booking confirmation email.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:


  • Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield 
  • Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
  • Greater London
  • Greater Manchester
  • Liverpool City Region
  • Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland
  • Tees Valley
  • West of England
  • West Midlands
  • West Yorkshire


1) FREE - if you earn less than £17,374.50 (£18,525 from 1st April 2022) gross salary or are on a means-tested benefit.

2) PAYMENT HELP AVAILABLE - if you earn more than £17,374.50 (£18,525 from 1st April 2022) (annual gross salary) but are on a low-income, we might be able to help pay part or all of your course fees. Email: learning@inspireculture.org.uk for an application form or if you have any questions.

3) CO-FUNDED - if you are on a higher-income, the government will pay approximately half of your course fees.
