About this course

To study the history of murder, investigation and punishment in the 20th and 21st centuries
To study some important current issues in murder, investigation and punishment in the UK

What will be covered on the course? What will be taught to learners?

Course content can be geared to learners interests, though suggested topics to choose from are:
History and development of :
Law enforcement – the police, CID, Interpol etc
Forensic investigation – DNA, fingerprinting etc
Technology, murder and murder investigation – cyber crime, the dark net, trace evidence, future possibilities
Why people kill
Murder in the UK – who kills who, why, where and how?
Forms of punishment for murderers and how effective they are in reducing murder

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

Learners will be able to give an overview of the main issues in the history and development of murder, investigation and punishment

Learners will require a notebook and pen

Reading lists and media sources will be given in class according to the topic

As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course. Zoom will be used for the live sessions and the link will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.
