About this course

On this course students will learn how to sew a selection of patchwork designs and how to make those up into a quilt adding sashing and bindings. They will also learn the important Health and Safety aspects of the equipment they will use along with how crucial accuracy is to a good finished piece.  


What will learners achieve by the end of the course?  

  • Explain how to safely use a rotary cutter and associated tools 
  • Produce samples of at least 2 different patchwork designs 
  • Describe at least 2 different ways to quilt a piece of work  
  • Create a sample using sashing techniques 
  • Discover how to back and bind a quilted piece 

What skills or knowledge do learners already need to have to attend the course? 

  • Students will need to have basic sewing skills with a sewing machine prior to the course 

You will need:

  • Sewing kit including scissors and unpicker, Fabrics, wadding, threads  

 PLEASE NOTE- The final session will start at 9:30am until 1:00pm

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
