About this course

The poppy flower is an enduring symbol of remembrance and hope, particularly in recognition of the Armed Forces around the world. The Ancient Greeks associated poppies with abundance and fertility while modern symbolism is typically one of remembrance. 


Over the three weeks we look at and create some Poppy theme crafts ; we look at needle felting, Stamping and Decoupage, and slow stitching.  Also within the sessions we have time to talk at reflect what poppies mean to us and our communities.   


What will be covered on the course?  What will be taught to learners? 

Within the course learners will gain an understanding of; 

  • The meaning of Poppies  
  • Introduction to needle felting 
  • Try some slow stitching and how to create designs onto fabric 
  • Introduction of Card layouts  
  • Introduction to Decoupage 


What will learners achieve by the end of the course? 

  • At the end of the course learners will have an understanding of some the craft equipment available and have understanding which items are best for specific projects.  This course is great to try some difference crafts.  


You will need:

None of the items are essential but the ones with (*)= recommend to get the best of the course 

Materials & Equipment Required: 

  • Red felting roving wool, and some black (or alternative colour for your poppy)(*) 
  • Plain Card(*) 
  • Piece of fabric – such as handkerchief/napkin  (*) 
  • Some embroidery floss(*) 
  • Equipment: Scissors, Felting needle ana pad,  sewing kit

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
