About this course

This course has been created to show you a more varied and exciting approach to landscape painting. During the course you are encouraged to explore acrylics as a medium. Working from photographs, this course will give you plenty of instruction from your tutor, as well as informal group critiques and discussions, all helping to increase your knowledge and enjoyment of landscape painting in a semi-abstract style. This course via Zoom, will feel like a ‘one to one’ master class where you will discover a variety of methods & techniques.

On this course, you will learn how to use quick and bold marks with thick paint to create expressive landscapes in acrylics. We will explore how shadow and light patterns can really help to give perspective and how this information can be used to create the atmosphere of an semi-abstracted landscape.  We will cover:

  • Artist research: Soraya French & Craig Penny
  • Working out innovative, dynamic compositions
  • Using a bright, colourful palette, with dynamic and bold mark making
  • Painting techniques: impasto, scumbling, sgrafitto and blending

You will need:

  • 40 x 50 cm Stretched canvas/ Canvas board, acrylic paper, Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson,  Cadmium Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Umber, and Titanium White acrylic paint, white acrylic gesso, palette, glycerin, spray bottle, a range of synthetic paint brushes, graphite pencils, metal palette knife, silicone spatula, photo reference
