About this course

We will  develop our poetry writing skills and ideas with inspiration from our context – the places where we belong, emotional and physical.  In addition to having space to write in a supportive atmosphere, we will look at how Nottinghamshire poets, past and present have evoked the spirit of Nottinghamshire and the people and places within it.

In each session we will look at a poem or poems by a different Nottinghamshire poet and use their approach and techniques as a starting point for our own writing. Each session will include time to write with support from the tutor and developmental feedback from each other.

By the end of this course, learners will:

  • Know more about the work of famous Nottinghamshire poets
  • Understand more about the history of where they live and its legends and stories
  • Know more about how to turn ideas and inspiration in to a strong piece of writing
  • Be able to make imaginative links between life experience, the work of other poets and the natural world
  • Understand more about rhyme, rhythm , metre and the structure of a poem
  • How to analyse and critique their own work and that of others

You will require paper and a pen.

Please adhere to current  Covid guidelines at the time of the course.
