Sherwood Hikes are ideal for learners who have attended any of the Inspire Map Reading Courses and want the opportunity for more practice, or anyone who enjoys walking for health and wellbeing and wants to explore new walks in the area. Aimed at regular walkers, hikes are approximately 6 miles over varied terrain, so not really suitable for beginners.
These hikes are a great way to use your map reading skills, enjoy exploring the Sherwood Forest area and gain from the health benefits of walking.
Each week will be a different circular walk in the ancient Sherwood Forest royal hunting grounds, an area stretching from Newstead to Haughton near Walesby and taking in sections of the Robin Hood Way.
Each session will start with a briefing of the route. For anyone interested there will be an opportunity to lead the walk for a section to develop your map reading skills (optional).

This is an outdoor walk over rough terrain so not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Please bring a drink and wear clothing and footwear suitable for outdoor walking and possible inclement weather.
Please Note: The meeting place for the first walk is the carp park outside of Newstead Village Community Centre NG15 0BS

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.
Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
