The aim of the course is to provide basic language skills to enable the use of a phrase book. It is suitable for adults who want more guidance on their pronunciation and how to learn important phrases for getting by in a modern foreign language.

Basic topics will be covered, such as, the alphabet, introductions and greetings, ordering food and drinks, telling the time, basic numbers, being polite and likes and dislikes.

Listening to questions and giving a suitable answer, asking questions and listening to the answer, and repetition of key vocabulary, will be essentials. Grammar support will be given. Writing down key vocabulary and phrases will be encouraged. Speaking and listening will be a main focus in order to communicate effectively.

This is an online course. A suitable electronic device such as a laptop, tablet or smartphone with internet access will be required. Learners will be required to download and use Zoom (free software). You will also need a notebook and pen.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been a resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in the UK with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
