About this course

Painting and drawing from life will improve your ability to see and render volume and space. During the course you will complete one still life painting in acrylics using the objects you have selected.

On this course, you will learn how to set up a dynamic composition, how to sketch and draw what is in front of them using the elements of art (line, texture, colour).  We will cover:

  • Creating a dynamic composition by placing the elements using some rules of composition
  • Working out the element of the composition (fruits, flowers, jugs and fabrics)
  • Completing a tonal value exercise
  • Painting techniques: impasto, sgrafitto, blending

You will need:

  • 40 x 50 cm Stretched canvas/ Canvas board, acrylic paper, Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Umber, and Titanium White acrylic paint, white acrylic gesso, palette, glycerin, spray bottle, a range of synthetic paint brushes, graphite pencils

As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course.  Zoom will be used for the live sessions and the link will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.

Please note the course is not running on 18th May.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:

  • Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool City Region, Tees Valley, West Midlands and West of England.
