Summer Reading Challenge 2019: Resources for Schools

Published 7th June 2019

The UK’s biggest annual reading for pleasure programme for primary aged children returns to Inspire libraries this summer..

We'd love schools to help us spread the word to encourage all Nottinghamshire children to get involved.

Produced by The Reading Agency and run in libraries across the country the Summer Reading Challenge is a great way to keep children reading over the summer.  Last year in Nottinghamshire 9,427 children took part.

Inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landings, this year’s Challenge invites children to help futuristic family, The Rockets, on an intergalactic adventure to retrieve missing library books.  Children read six library books, collecting rewards along the way to complete their mission.

The Summer Reading Challenge can help avoid the potential dip in reading levels over the long summer break and provides free fun for 4 – 11 year olds.

Inspire would love help from schools to encourage children to sign up to the Summer Reading Challenge this year.  There are resources available below to support schools to promote the Challenge ahead of the summer holidays.
