Libraries week takes place 5-10 October

Libraries Week takes place between 5 – 10 October to celebrate the nation’s much-loved libraries and their vital role in the UK’s book culture.

Find out how you can be inspired this Libraries Week!

This year, Libraries Week will be celebrating the significant contribution that libraries make to building a nation of readers, providing access to readers of all ages through digital support, services and activities.

Inspire libraries are delighted to take part in Libraries Week and to celebrate all the great things our libraries have to offer, particularly during these unprecedented times and we want to encourage everyone in our community to sign up for a library card and discover a world of reading!

Signing up for a library card is easy and free and can be done online or at your local library. A library card enables customers to borrow books and resources from our libraries as well as 24/7 access to thousands of digital resources including eBooks, eMagazines and eAudio books.

We have been working hard to reopen our libraries with the priority of keeping customers and staff safe and have been enjoying welcoming visitors back to our libraries. Although normal service hasn’t yet resumed, library visitors can still:

  • Borrow books and resources
  • Use printers, scanners and photocopiers
  • Book to use PC stations

For those who may not feel ready to come into our buildings or may not be able to visit us due to health concerns, we have recently launched our new Click & Collect service and Home Delivery services. Our mobile library buses are also back out in the community, operating a click and collect only service for those unable to get to their local library.

Starting reading early has many lifelong benefits and we are passionate about encouraging children to read. Our libraries have a wide range of story and information books to delight, inspire and enthuse a love of reading and learning in children. Children are welcome in our libraries at any age and parents/guardians can sign up for a free library card on children’s behalf. There are no overdue charges for children and young people up to the age of 19.

We also have a host of resources available for adult readers, from inspiration for your next good read, finding a local reading group, author book talks and our Reading Well collections, we’ve got something to get you reading whatever your interests. There’s even the Inspire Online Book Club which everyone is welcome to join!
