Let's Get Healthy Together 8 April 2017

Published 22nd March 2017

This April sees Inspire’s Mansfield Central Library play host to a free health and wellbeing day that calls out to its local community to ‘Let’s Get Healthy Together’.

To mark World Health Day, Inspire is bringing together library professionals, public health providers and health and wellbeing experts from around the county to offer information, hands-on activities, advice and taster sessions for all ages. World Health Day is celebrated on 7 April every year to mark the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization .

The Inspire free event on 8 April offers the opportunity to get expert advice around quitting smoking, weight management, cancer awareness, nutrition, mental health, depression and early years’ guidance, while visiting the pop-up health shop to get your blood pressure checked and plot your BMI.  Visitors can also make their own smoothie by pedalling away on the Pulp Friction smoothie bike. Families are invited to drop-in to special Rattle, Rhyme & Roll sessions and there will also be art activities and street and breakdance sessions. Experts are also on hand to offer taster sessions around baby massage, hand reflexology and mindfulness.

Inspire delivers a range of cultural, learning and library services on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council. The Inspire event has something for all ages to come along, have fun, be inspired and ‘get healthy together’.

Marie Davis, Inspire Development Officer for Reading and Programmes commented “We are really excited to be able to showcase our health and wellbeing resources bringing library professionals, public health providers and health and wellbeing experts together We want to have lots of fun while also spreading the importance of a healthy lifestyle and I think the library is a fantastic venue to do this.”

Ruth Willis, Macmillan Cancer Development Manager, NHS Mansfield and Ashfield Clinical Commissioning Group commented, “We are fortunate to be part of this exciting event.  It’s a great opportunity for us to raise awareness of a range of services and support available for people affected by cancer, either as a patient, carer or relative, or someone touched by cancer through someone they know.”
