This online level 2 certificate in understanding Autism is designed for those who wish to develop an understanding of autism and how to support individuals with autism.
This course includes the following units:
Unit 01: Introduction to Autism
In this unit you will:
- Learn what is meant by autism.
- Understand theories and diagnosis.
- Look at common misconceptions associated with autism and conditions that can co-occur with autism.
Unit 02: Using a Person-Centred Approach
In this unit you will:
- Learn to use a person-centred approach to support individuals with autism, incorporating the preferences and needs of the individual.
- Look at legislation and guidance.
- Discover support networks available to individuals and families.
Unit 03: Communication and Social Interaction
In this unit you will:
- Learn about the potential delays and difficulties in speech, language, and social development sometimes faced by individuals with autism.
- Identify methods and strategies that could be used when communicating with those with autism.
Unit 04: Sensory Processing, Perception and Cognition
In this unit you will:
- Understand sensory processing, perception, and cognition in individuals with autism - This includes looking at hypersensitivity and hyposensitivity.
- Consider how to the support the sensory needs of those with autism.
Unit 05: Supporting Positive Behaviour
In this unit you will:
- Understand individuals’ behaviours in the context of autism.
- Identify how to support positive behaviour and help individuals to develop coping strategies.
Unit 06: Supporting Individuals with Autism to Live Healthy and Fulfilled Lives
In this unit you will:
- Learn how to support individuals through transitions and life events.
- Learn how to maintain their personal safety, and how to access services, facilities, and employment opportunities.
- Gain an understanding of what it’s like for an individual to live with autism.
Course cost
The cost of this course is free/£342.
1) Free - if you earn less than £25,000 annual gross salary or are on a means-tested benefit.
2) Payment help available - if you earn more than £25,000 (annual gross salary) but are on a low-income, we might be able to help pay part or all of your course fees. Email: learning@inspireculture.org.uk for an application form or if you have any questions.
3) Co-funded - if you are on a higher-income, the government will pay approximately half of your course fees.
