The day will be filled with music; enchanting singing from Langold Dyscarr School Choir, and fabulous sounds from Inspire Music’s own Red Hot Band.
Nature, autumn, and ‘enjoying the outdoors’ are some of the themes of the craft activities taking place at Worksop Library’s Fun Palace this year. See what you can create with the Oasis Community Centre, Now Church at Langold, and Clumber Park National Trust. The Harley Gallery will also be making and creating, and Veolia will be in attendance with a fun Wheel of Fortune game aiming to raise awareness of recycling. BCVS will be helping families paint stones, and with Inspire Learning you can create your own mini greenhouse plus LEGO stop-motion animation.
Get hands-on with science and prepare to be amazed; science has always featured in a big way at the Fun Palace in Worksop and this year is no exception. Nottingham-based charity Ignite will be back with their ever-popular science busking kit full of simple science tricks, and the UK Atomic Energy Authority will be attending with a variety of fun STEM activities including the robot dog and giant plasma ball.
Inspire are pleased to offer a special ‘Little Creatives’ drop-in session at the event, featuring artist Dawn Taylor. Dawn is a practitioner and teacher of art and yoga and is part of the project that empowers local artists to design workshops for early years children. She will be sharing her sensory activities with the smallest Fun Palace visitors, the under 5’s, in her inclusive and accessible sessions. Little Creatives is a regular event taking place at libraries across Nottinghamshire.
During the event, Inspire’s I Am An Artist exhibition will be on display in the library’s gallery. Five professional artists in collaboration with local groups, including people affected by dementia, older people and neurodivergent families, have co-created a colourful and inspiring collection of artwork. Locals can catch the exhibition from Friday 3 October until Thursday 20 November before its tour continues around the county.
The Virtual Reality Library will also be at Worksop Library for the weekend of Saturday 4 October and Sunday 5 October, so grab a headset and be amazed by 7 thrilling virtual reality experiences including Wallace & Gromit in The Grand Getaway.
Additionally, teams from Inspire will be on hand with fun giant games and big bricks, as well as the fan favourite badge machine so visitors can create a memento to take away with them.
"We are thrilled to be again welcoming visitors to our Fun Palace at Worksop Library for the 8th year. Our libraries are a hub of the communities they serve, and bringing people of all ages together at events just like this is what our teams do best. We welcome people to come along and try out the brilliant activities throughout the day, you can come for 10 minutes or stay the whole day ( we have a lovely café if you want to make a day of it ! ) and hope that once again our Fun Palace encourages community spirit and a love for culture, science and the arts."
The Fun Palace event is at Worksop Library 10am – 3pm on Saturday 4 October. Further information about the event can be found at inspireculture.org.uk/funpalace
