Mansfield’s biggest youth festival is back for Takeover Festival 2026

Published 2nd March 2026

Mansfield’s biggest youth‑led arts celebration will be returning on Saturday 7 March at Four Seasons Shopping Centre for a day of community arts, activities and live performances, all designed and delivered by young people!

This free one‑day festival, designed and led by local 14-24yr olds from the Takeover volunteer programme, working together with Captivate, Nonsuch and First Art, will be taking over the shopping centre between 11am–4pm with live performances, hands‑on workshops and immersive creative activities for all ages.

This year’s young creatives come from The Brunts Academy, Nottingham Trent University and Inspire Youth Arts. This year’s theme, The Future We Make, has invited every group to envision the future in their own way. From neon futures, green futures, utopian futures, chaotic futures and beautifully strange futures, every group will be creating their own visions of tomorrow through art! Festival‑goers can join in digital VR experiences, craft stations, a silent disco rave, an alien treasure hunt and more - everyone is welcome to drop in and get involved. Local creative workshop studio, Dizzy Ink, will also be leading fun art workshops for families throughout the day. The Takeover Main Stage will feature live performances from Inspire Youth Arts Rock School, Julie Shacklock School of Dancing, Believe Academy and Centre Stage Academy.

Takeover is a project part-funded by Arts Council England, East Midlands Combined County Authority and the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, supporting arts‑based opportunities for young people in Mansfield and Ashfield and helping to build pathways into the creative arts industry.

Since launching, Takeover has mentored over 300 young people, supporting them develop their creativity, leadership and employability skills. Recent cohorts have spent the last two months designing their festival concepts with support from mentors at First Art, Nonsuch and Nottingham Trent University, gaining hands‑on experience, industry insights and opportunities to collaborate with professional artists.

We’re so excited to bring Takeover Festival to life again. We know how powerful
creative opportunities can be in building young people’s confidence and
supporting their growth, and it’s been brilliant to see our latest groups
develop their ideas and skills over the last few weeks. Last year was
unforgettable, and we’re thrilled to return with a brand‑new theme and another
opportunity for young creatives to shine.
