Local historian Denis Hill looks at the dozen or so water mills that once operated along the River Maun.
From a modest “Kings” mill mentioned in the Domesday book, Mansfield became a “power house” of mills producing cotton products which brought great prosperity to the town. Many of the mill buildings and their water courses still survive, but others have sadly disappeared for ever.
Nevertheless, there are 230 years' worth of paintings and photographs to be viewed as we take a look at the Water Mills of Mansfield.
