On Saturday 4 October Worksop Library hosted its eighth Fun Palace event, with FREE drop-in activities designed to encourage people of all ages to engage with arts, science and culture.
Visitors arrived between 10am and 3pm to take part in activities including nature crafts, stone painting, sensory play, science fun and much more.
The library welcomed local community groups and organisations including: Aurora Centre, Bassetlaw Community and Voluntary Service (BCVS), Foster for East Midlands, From The Heart Charity, Girl guiding, Harley Gallery, Ignite!, Inspire Learning, Mr Straw’s House and Clumber Park (National Trust), Nottinghamshire County Council Flood Awareness, Now Church at Langold, Oasis Community Centre, UK Atomic Energy Authority, Veolia Nottinghamshire, Worksop Citizens Advice Bureau, and Worksop Police Cadets.
The day was also filled with music, with the Langold Dyscarr School Choir delighting us with their singing, and Inspire Music’s own Red Hot Band taking to the stage at lunchtime. Audiences were then encouraged to have-a-go with the instruments, before the band's Fun Palace grand finale.
Science has always played a big part at the Fun Palace in Worksop and this year was no exception. Nottingham-based charity Ignite returned with their ever-popular science busking kit full of simple science tricks, and the UK Atomic Energy Authority brought fun STEM activities including a robot dog and giant plasma ball. Families enjoyed getting involved and exploring science.
Digital Spaces Virtual Reality Library amazed visitors, young and old, and brought stories to life. Everyone who took part enjoyed the immersive experience, and visitors waited eagerly to try it out.
During the event, Inspire’s I Am An Artist exhibition was on display in the library’s gallery. Five professional artists in collaboration with local groups created a colourful and inspiring collection of artwork contributing to the exhibition. Children also discovered their creative side, and enjoyed painting at the Art Station with artist Dan Donovan.
The Little Creatives artists kept our youngest visitors entertained, allowing them to explore their creativity in a multi-sensory creative experience.
The library team provided fun activities for the younger ones, with spin pictures, Bee-Bots, big bricks, and giant games, as well as the favourite badge machine, giving children the opportunity to create a memento to take away with them. Inspire Learning provided opportunities to explore stop motion animation and create a mini-greenhouse.
