Newark Library is excited to be part of the Newark Creates Festival of Creativity – Newark's Narnia, which is taking place on Saturday 4 October, at various locations in Newark.
This autumn, Newark invites families to embrace the chill and wrap themselves in warmth and wonder with a day of free, drop-in activities inspired by Narnia and the Danish concept of Hygge - a celebration of comfort, creativity, and community.
Across multiple venues in the town, visitors can step through the wardrobe into a world of storytelling, imagination, and hands-on fun. From crafting mythical creatures and enchanted feasts to sampling sweet treats and joining in with interactive performances, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
We look forward to welcoming you at Newark library for:
NEWARK LIBRARY RHUBARB THEATRE 10.30am, 12.30pm & 2.30pm Join our book-bonkers buddies as they act out tales of whales, bears and manic monsters. Be amazed as they twist fantastic adventures of pathetic pirates, merry musketeers, and hairy hairdressers. Full of music, comedy and general silliness, Rhubarb Theatre’s fun and fantastical festival show is, quite literally, out of this world.
NEWARK LIBRARY CREATIVITY & SKILLS 9 – 4pm Join the Newark Library team for more creativity. Have a go at handspinning and weaving, join in with the Storybook Emporium: Newark’s Narnia nonsense. There’s a chance to get creative with Lego building and have a go at tying a range of knots with Les from Newark’s Heritage Barge.
Other highlights of the day include, crafting workshops at the Town Hall, and creative sessions at the YMCA and Palace Theatre, where families can decorate marshmallows, design hot chocolates, and even meet the White Witch herself. The National Civil War Centre and Newark Art Gallery will also be buzzing with activities—from gingerbread-inspired townscapes and wellbeing workshops to storytelling around a cosy campfire.
Whether you're making, playing, watching, or simply soaking up the atmosphere, this is a day designed to bring people together through shared experiences and seasonal joy.
So layer up, head into town, and discover the magic waiting around every corner.
