Award-winning crime novelist and critic Martin Edwards discusses the work of Francis Vivian, a forgotten master of detective fiction from 'the Golden Age of Murder', who was born in Retford and set some of his stories in the East Midlands'.

 

Martin Edwards is the author of twenty-five crime novels, including the Rachel Savernake series, the Lake District Cold Case Mysteries, and the Harry Devlin books, as well as stand-alones such as Miss Winter in the Library with a Knife. He has won three Daggers, including the CWA Diamond Dagger, the highest honour in UK crime writing, and has received two Edgars from the Mystery Writers of America. He has received lifetime achievement awards for his fiction, non-fiction, short stories, and scholarship. A former Chair of the CWA, he is consultant to the British Library’s Crime Classics, and has been President of the Detection Club since 2015.
