Join us for a special Inspire Poetry Festival 2025 film screening celebrating a much loved English poet.
Join us on National Poetry Day for a special screening of Bright Star at Southwell Library. Written and directed by Oscar winner Jane Campion (The Piano), Bright Star tells the story of the romance between 19th century romantic poet John Keats and Fanny Brawne, who together rode a wave of romantic obsession that deepened as their troubles mounted.
Campion treats Keats’s talent as a given . . . She weaves his poetry into the drama, calling for it to be spoken naturally and not at all awkwardly by her characters. It’s not easy to follow verse this way, but it certainly inspires the viewer to head straight from the cinema to the bookshop.
Doors will open 15 minutes before the screening.
