The Summer Reading Challenge is back in libraries this summer! This year children join the Ready, Set, Read! team (and their animal mascots!) as they use their skills to weave their way through a summer obstacle course.

Join us for a virtual assembly to introduce Ready, Set, Read - Summer Reading Challenge 2023.  The assembly will explain everything you and your pupils need to know about the challenge.  We will cover how to join, what the challenge is and showcase the brilliant FREE rewards children earn by reading library books.

How it Works

  • The virtual assembly will take place on Zoom.
  • The session will be presented as a webinar.
  • No video cameras of attendees will be visible or enabled.
  • It will be suitable for all primary aged children and will last no longer than 15 minutes.
  • You need to book a place in advance to receive the link to access the assembly.  The link will be emailed a day before the event.

*Please note this event is only open to Nottinghamshire primary schools.

About the Summer Reading Challenge

Ready Set 23

The Summer Reading Challenge is produced by The Reading Agency and runs in libraries all over the country.   The challenge, aimed at children aged 4 to 11 years, is to read six or more library books over the summer.   There are stickers and other reward for every book read.  Children who complete the challenge receive a medal and a certificate.

Children who take part:

  • are more enthusiastic about reading
  • maintain their reading level over the holidays
  • return to schools keen and ready to learn
  • boost their confidence and self-esteem.

How the Summer Reading Challenge works

  • Children sign up at the library to start their Challenge.
  • Borrow books from the library  - Children choose the books they want to read on their Challenge, recording what they have read in their folder.  Library staff and volunteers are on hand to chat to children about books they have read.
  • For every book read, children will pick up stickers along with other rewards as they progress through the Challenge.
  • Every child who completes the challenge, by reading 6 library books, receives a medal and certificate.

It’s all free, fun and a great way to keep children reading over the summer holidays.
