September 1947

Is it possible to pick a month at random and give a local history talk about it? Well Robert Mee says the answer is yes! He has scoured old newspapers from Nottinghamshire (and Derbyshire) and highlights the stories from September 1947 – you may be surprised by the similarities between then and now. Advertising and entertainment from the period add colour and help to illustrate the changes over the last 75 years. It doesn’t matter if you weren’t around in 1947 (the speaker wasn’t!).
