What's On from May to August 2021

Arts and culture live at your library and beyond!

We're so excited to be introducing this season of Inspire events – our first season following a year of disruption during periods of national lockdown. We also have a brand-new look, launching our first ever blended season of events in libraries and online.

You can download or view the new What's On guide online below or pick up a copy in your local Inspire library (whilst stocks last)...

Our annual Summer Reading Challenge is back in all libraries for the summer celebrating reading, nature and action for the environment with its Wild World Heroes theme. We can’t wait to welcome children and families back to the library – and you’ll be pleased to hear the smelly stickers will also be back for you to collect as rewards along the way to Wilderville!

Also check out our other family events including theatre, workshops and music - all online for you to enjoy from home.

Heritage goes online this season with a host of events. The Great Nottinghamshire Local History Fair goes digital – headlined with an interview by the author, broadcaster, curator and former Nottinghamshire resident, Lucy Worsley. It’s not to be missed!

There’s good news for our Worksop community as the library reopens for the first time since flood damage closed its doors in November 2019. The newly refurbished space will be the perfect setting for cultural events and learning when government guidelines allow.

In the meantime catch the Surfaces of the Shire exhibition (also moving on to Mansfield Central Library), and of course take part in the Summer Reading Challenge.

Celebrate our legendary landscape with our special collection of events in partnership with the Miner2Major Landscape Partnership Scheme – get knitting, visit an exhibition or be inspired in a poetry workshop!

Don’t miss our friend and poet extraordinaire Henry Normal who is bringing his New Poetry Society live online to you from 5 May to 7 July. Henry will be joined by a different guest poet every Wednesday on Zoom for an hour of midday conversation and poetry - and tickets are free!

We hope you’ve been inspired to get involved but if you need more, check out the latest from learning, youth arts and archives on pages 12-15

We can't wait to see you back in libraries soon!
