This autumn, Worksop Library will host its ninth Fun Palace event, with FREE drop-in activities designed to encourage people of all ages to engage with arts, science and culture. Join in the fun on Saturday 3 October.
Visitors can drop in between 10am and 3pm to take part in free activities including a range of crafts, sensory play, science tricks, and much more. The library will welcome local community groups and organisations including:

The day will be filled with music; enchanting singing from Langold Dyscarr School Choir, an uplifting performance from Dukeries Ukeries Ukulele Group, and fabulous sounds from Inspire Music’s own Red Hot Band.
There will be a variety of craft activities taking place at Worksop Library’s Fun Palace this year. See what you can create with BCVS, Mr Straw’s House and Clumber Park National Trust. Make a clay poppy seed head with Harley Foundation, explore sensory trays with Now Church, and take part in nature activities from Bassetlaw Food Bank, Friends of Woodlands and Coachwood Green and Oasis Community Centre. Veolia will also be in attendance with a fun beanbag activity aiming to raise awareness of recycling.
Get hands-on with science and prepare to be amazed; science has always featured in a big way at the Fun Palace in Worksop and this year is no exception. The UK Atomic Energy Authority will be attending with a variety of fun STEM activities including the robot dog and giant plasma ball, and we’ll be welcoming NextGen STEM club who will be providing coding and robotics workshops.
During the
event, Inspire’s I Am A Maker Exhibition will be on
display in the library’s gallery. Five professional artists, in collaboration
with local groups, have co-created an inspiring collection of place themed
artwork. The exhibition will be on display at Worksop Library from Saturday 3
October until Sunday 15 November before its tour continues around the county.
Be inspired to make your own fabulous creations with I Am A Maker artists; Chris Campbell
(artist and sculptor), and Loree Bologna (jewellery designer). Join them for
crafty, family friendly drop- in workshops throughout the day and celebrate the
launch of this year’s Big Draw Festival!
Teams from Inspire will be on hand with fun family activities including giant Lego, spin pictures, and Bee-Bots, as well as the fan favourite badge machine so visitors can create a memento to take away with them.
We also have a special visit this year from two curious aliens… Are We Alien walkabout theatre by Artemis are waiting to meet you and find out more about humans in the Library!
"We are thrilled to be again welcoming visitors to our Fun Palace at Worksop Library for the 9th year. Our libraries are a hub of the communities they serve, and bringing people of all ages together at events just like this is what our teams do best. We welcome people to come along and try out the brilliant activities throughout the day, you can come for 10 minutes or stay the whole day (we have a lovely café if you want to make a day of it!) and hope that once again our Fun Palace encourages community spirit and a love for culture, science and the arts.
