Amelia is a multidisciplinary Artist based in the East Midlands who works with craft-based mediums. Wright’s practice aspires to both inherit and preserve the ‘every day’ eternally—being done in consideration with the experience of memory loss due to coeliac disease and a genetic predisposition to dementia.
Working primarily with wood, glass and textiles, each medium was ‘inherited’ from close family members— maintaining their memory through continuous practice. Each art form holds great tactility and nostalgia, encouraging audience interaction and exploration of the artwork. Examining both medium and imagery, Wright hopes to permanently ingrain the easily forgotten childhood period into both her and their audience’s memory; keeping those snapshots of memory lasting eternal.
Due to learning these processes from close family, Wright holds a particular interest in participatory art. By enabling others to experience her practiced art forms, she passes on the knowledge she ‘inherited’; preserving the memory of the art form’s origin through its succession. She currently freelances as an art facilitator at several institutions, aiding others in experiencing the arts and helping to create long lasting memories.
