This creative, collaborative course takes place in the Pavilion at Arnot Hill Park, where learners will work together to design and produce a sculptural piece intended for installation at Gedling Country Park.
Throughout the course, the group will explore ideas, sketch possibilities, and develop a shared design for a sculpture that reflects the landscape and community it will eventually belong to. Using materials such as clay and other sculptural media, learners will experiment with form, texture, and structure as they shape their collective concept into a finished piece ready for display.
Although based in the Pavilion, the course does require a level of physical ability. The building includes outdoor steps, and learners will also be invited to visit the installation sites within Gedling Country Park where some planning can take place. These areas can involve hills, natural slopes, and uneven terrain. Anyone taking part should feel comfortable with walking, standing, and moving around outdoor spaces.
By the end of the course, learners will have contributed to the full creative process, from initial brainstorming through to shaping and refining the final sculpture. They will gain experience of working collaboratively, experimenting with sculptural materials, and thinking about how artwork interacts with outdoor public spaces. The completed sculpture will be transported to Gedling Country Park, where it will become part of a shared community environment.
Note: There is a car park next to the pavilion but a suitable ticket is required.
