About this course
This course is aimed at new or established writers, who are either already experimenting with using poetry in their writing, or who would like to learn about this approach for the first time. You will be learning different types of poetry and learning how to write using different structures.
We will look at Introduction and types of poetry. We will also do elements of a poem- Language, structure and style used. Your assignments will include discussion prompts and writing exercises and you can use this as an opportunity to share your work (not obligatory). We will be analysing sonnets, ballads, acrostic, cinquain, haiku and free verse.
By the end of the course, you will:
Use poems and images as prompts to write
Feel confident about writing a poem
Understand more about rhyme, rhythm, meter and structure of a poem
Write and edit three or more poems
Differentiate between sonnet and ballad
Develop a developmental feedback approach to own and others' work
Look at ways to create an online presence in order to get published

To enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.
Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
