About this course

This hands-on course introduces learners to the art of macramé, focusing on creating a decorative wall hanging. Participants will learn basic knots, pattern planning, and finishing techniques.

Over the course you will look at the history and uses of macramé over the years, and look at the materials available (cord types, dowels) and be able to state the advantages of them. You will design and make a Wall Hanging using Lark’s Head Knot, Square Knot, Half Hitch & Double Half Hitch.

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

Learners will be able to identify and tie at least three basic macramé knots

Learners will be able to select appropriate materials for a small wall hanging and explain their choices.

Learners will be able to follow a simple macramé pattern to begin constructing their wall hanging

Learners will demonstrate consistent tension and spacing in their knots across at least two rows of their project.

Learners will complete a small macramé wall hanging using at least three different knots.

Learners will present their finished piece to the group, describing the knots used, design choices, and any challenges they overcame.

A pen and notebook.

Residency in England

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must be living in England permanently and live outside of the devolved areas listed below or live within the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) devolved area (Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire).

Residency Eligibility – other criteria

If you are living in the UK on a visa we will require evidence of this in order to be funded for the course, you can upload this evidence when you apply for the course. (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

Some exceptions may apply for example

  • Your visa expiry date must be beyond the end of your course

  • Asylum seekers must have lived in the UK for 6 months or longer while their claim is being considered by the Home Office

  • You are receiving local authority support under section 23C or section 23CA of the Children Act 1989 or the Care Act 2014

Any learner who is not funded full cost fees would apply to these courses.
