Mixed Media painting can add vitality to your work by incorporating a variety of media in a single artwork. With practical advice on colour mixing, techniques and exploring composition ideas, learners can develop the necessary skills to approach a painting using mixed media to achieve exciting and dramatic effects in different styles. Mixed Media for All is a dynamic and engaging course designed for learners of all levels who want to experiment with combining various materials and techniques in their artwork.
You will explore how to bring energy, depth, and visual interest to their paintings by skilfully layering and blending different media such as acrylics, ink, collage, pastels, graphite, and more. Mixed media painting offers a rich playground for creativity. This course goes beyond basic technique—it introduces a fresh way of thinking about materials, surfaces, and artistic expression.
Through a series of structured lessons and guided exercises, learners will explore how to:
- Combine multiple art materials effectively in a single piece
- Experiment with texture, transparency, and layering to create visually rich and tactile artworks.
- Use collage and found objects as powerful storytelling tools or abstract design elements within a painting.
- Learn colour mixing strategies that help unify diverse media and bring harmony to complex compositions.
- Explore expressive mark-making techniques using unconventional tools such as credit cards, sponges, stencils, and natural materials.
- Develop original compositions by experimenting with layout, balance, contrast, and focal points.
- Work in both abstract and representational styles, allowing learners to find their personal voice while experimenting with style and media.
