This follow-on course is designed for learners who have already explored the basics of Impressionist painting and are ready to deepen their understanding and personal interpretation of the style. Over a series of structured and supportive sessions, you’ll further develop your acrylic painting skills while drawing inspiration from both historical Impressionists and your own creative vision. Through more complex compositions and expressive techniques, you’ll explore how to use colour, light, and brushwork to convey atmosphere, movement, and emotion. You’ll also have the opportunity to work on a personal project, refine your palette, and experiment with larger-scale or more ambitious pieces.
Whether painting landscapes, figures, or everyday scenes, you’ll be encouraged to respond intuitively to your subject and develop a looser, more confident painting approach. This course is ideal for learners who have completed the beginner Impressionist course or have previous painting experience and want to take their work further in an expressive, light-filled direction.
By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Create a minimum of two finished Impressionist-style acrylic paintings, demonstrating a developed and personal interpretation of the style.
- Apply at least four advanced Impressionist techniques, such as broken colour, optical mixing, directional brushwork, and expressive light effects, across their projects.
- Mix and apply a range of colour palettes
- Plan and complete one independent painting project, from reference material through to final artwork, using preparatory sketches or studies.
- Analyse the compositional choices in at least two Impressionist paintings (their own or others') and explain how they influence mood, light, or atmosphere.
- Develop and implement a marketing plan using at least 3 different channels (e.g., social media, email marketing, and local events) to promote their products.
