Whether you're a beginner or looking to enhance your existing skills, Painting on texture course guides you step-by-step in exploring the dynamic world of acrylic painting with an emphasis on texture. You'll learn how to build and layer textures, apply acrylic mediums, and create visually rich, tactile artworks from the comfort of your home. Each week includes guided demonstrations, creative exercises, and personalised feedback to help you develop your unique artistic voice.
Designed for adult learners of all skill levels, the course introduces essential techniques and tools used to create rich, tactile surfaces, while guiding students to express their own artistic ideas in compelling, textured artworks. Throughout the course, participants will: Explore the Basics of Acrylics: Understand the properties of acrylic paints, tools, surfaces, and mediums.
Learn how to mix colours, control drying time, and achieve different effects with brushes, palette knives, and unconventional tools. Introduction to Texture Techniques: Discover how to build texture using modeling paste, gel mediums, collage elements, fabric, sand, and natural materials. Learn how to layer and manipulate these materials to create depth and interest. Understanding Composition and Design: Learn how to plan a balanced composition, choose a focal point, and use textured elements to enhance the visual flow of a painting. Layering and Mixed Media: Dive into layering techniques with both paint and texture, integrating materials like paper, fabric, and found objects to create mixed-media works.
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
Identify and describe at least 3 different texture-building materials and mediums used in acrylic painting
Create modelling paste to apply on the surface
Create a minimum of 3 textured painting studies that demonstrate specific techniques such as layering, impasto, and mixed media integration
Apply principles of composition and design to develop a balanced and visually engaging textured artwork on canvas or board
Demonstrate confidence in using acrylic paint in combination with texture, completing one final personal project that showcases learned techniques and individual expression
