Who This Course Is For
This course is for adults who want a recognised maths qualification but do not have a GCSE at grade 4 (what used to be a Grade C) or higher.
What You Will Learn
Instead of abstract ideas, the maths you do here is based on real, everyday situations (like managing money or measuring spaces). It is split into three main areas:
• Everyday Numbers: Getting confident with standard calculations, handling decimals, working out percentages, and dealing with fractions and ratios (great for budgeting or shopping).
• Shapes and Measuring: Working with lengths and weights, calculating the area of a space or the volume of a container, reading basic design plans, and using map scales or coordinates.
• Data and Odds: Figuring out averages, understanding basic probability (the likelihood of something happening), and learning how to read or draw charts and graphs.
You will also be taught exam techniques to help you achieve your qualification from City & Guilds.
What is Expected of You
• You will need to attend class every week and complete homework.
• It is useful to have your own calculator, pen and notepad.
• A textbook appropriate to your level will be provided to you on completion of your online initial assessment.
