About this course
Reduction Lino Printing is an ideal process for printmakers with some experience, but it can be accessed by those new to lino printing too. It is a great way to get into printmaking as it is as simple or as complex as you want it to be and you don’t need to rely on being confident at drawing.
During the course you will have an in-depth introduction to the colour reduction lino process. It is a relief printing process that works through developing and using graphic contrast and mark making skills. The process works by cutting out each colour layer from the same block, usually light to dark and printing each colour on top of the previous one.
You will learn and explore the process through looking at and discussing other printmakers work and by demonstrations, personal experimentation and individual tuition on how to design, cut and print your images.
By the end of the course everyone will have produced good quality, finished prints to mount and exhibit or to give as gifts.
What will learners achieve by the end of the course?
You will be able to:
Discuss how other printmakers have explored the reduction lino printing process.
Use visual source material to create your initial design.
Use markmaking, colour layers and contrast creatively and safely to cut image.
Mix and use water soluble relief inks to produce effective prints.
Use registration technique effectively to produce professional prints.
Use vocational language and terminology effectively to discuss and explain your work.
